1st RV Trip

First RV Trip- Day One

Picking up the RV and heading out on my first trip

Friday, June 17 –Statesville NC

3:00 pm

My appointment at Camping World of Statesville, to pick up  the RV, was at 3:00 pm.  I was excited to finally be getting it, after all the research and dealing, and it was all I could to do keep from speeding on the way there.  We did  our walk-through and orientation of all the systems and features.  I spotted a few cosmetic issues, and they sent their technicians scurrying to fix them  while ‘Matt’ went through all the check lists of things for which I needed to be aware.  After all that was done, and while they finished the touch-ups and topped off the gas tanks, Joel and I went into the Camping World store to get the essentials we needed to hit the road: chemicals,  hoses, connectors, water filter, etc.

Bringing the RV home - Charlotte, NC

6:00 pm

I figured this would be an issue, the tree in the front yard has limbs that go over the driveway, and while I can drive under them in the car, the RV is another issue.  Luckily I’m at the end of the cul-de-sac, so I can leave it half way out while I grab some supplies from the house, and play with some of the features.

I wanted to grab a few interior shots of the RV before heading out.

The one upgrade I'm sure I won't regret is the his & his sleep numbers bed that lets you adjust the firmness for each side of the bed...

Time to get on the road....

7:00 pm

Time to head down to Charleston, SC for a weekend of camping, while also helping my Nephew move into his new college apartment.   I planned this trip to kill two birds with one stone...  It was a four hour drive from Charlotte to Charleston, and I was surprised how easy the RV is to drive.  You really just feel like you’re driving a van most of the time.  This was one of the reasons I chose a C class RV, I figured it would be an easier transition.

Charleston, SC -  Since we stopped to eat and pick up supplies, it was after midnight when we pulled into the Oak Plantation Campground.  I had called ahead and let them know it would be late, so they had already given me my site number and map.  Even being sleepy, and in the dark, hooking up the electric, water, and sewage was actually pretty easy.  The site setup made everything a close reach.  I turned the breaker off on the power, plugged in, then breaker on, powered down the on-board generator, and we had power.  Next I attached the regulator to the RV water connector, then screwed on the water filter, then the hose to the water connector.  I opened the faucets in the RV, then turned on the water spigot.  After the air was out, closed the faucets, and water was done.  The sewage hose attaches easily to the RV sewage pipe, then I screwed the piece into the sewage pipe in the ground, then attached the other end of the hose to it, and opened the grey water tank.  It flowed and no leaks, so that was done.  After raising the TV antenna and running the channel scan on the TV, I was pleasantly surprised to find at least a dozen clear channels, most in HD.  Time to wind down and get to bed for an early morning....
