Jackson California Event 2018

Tim and I visited the Northern California group last year and so much wanted to make it back once again to see the folks we don't get to see at event south of Pismo Beach. One of the best things that came out of this event was the formation of some other event choices. Keep an eye on the calendar for more information on that.

On the way up to Jackson we made a detour to the Black Oak Casino Resort near Yosemite National Park in Tuolumne, CA . That trip was more than 9 hours so we stopped off for the night befor heading off the freeway. This brand new park was wonderful. The area was rich with forest and the people could not have been nicer. The town was not as charming as Jackson but to be honest we spent most of the time trying to stay warm.

After two nights at Black Oaks it was time to move on to Jackson CA. I am a true believer in Google products and have great trust in their navigation. We set out on a trek that gave us an early warning when we were directed across a one lane bridge. Hold on Tim this is gonna be a bumpy ride. I do well with one lane roads and sharing the road but these connections and this section of highway 49 was truly set up for horse a buggy. My rule of polite progress is if I feel safe at 10 mile under the posted curve speed suggestions and 10 miles under the speed limit I am good to go and cause little delay for drivers who follow. The one stress I have is to not piss off a driver to the point they will try a dangerous pass.

Turn outs are difficult where there is a hill climb to re enter. If I can hit a turn out and roll to the end I will take it but for me to pull a complete stop to let cars pass, the re-entry acceleration side of the turnout has to be level and have a clear view for oncoming traffic. There were few acceptable turn outs to take in our 50 mile trip between rv parks but I was able to maintain a comfortable polite speed.

Rolling along watching only the middle traffic line with peripheral glances to the side mirror, Tim suddenly cried "Glory Hole OMG". I am game for almost anything but he is gonna know it's me. Wait, I now see the sign. Up ahead is Glory Hole Park. OMG I shouted. With no turn out in sight we hit the first intersection to block and hiked back to get an image of the sign.

Determined to make her happy

a member needed a win and our plan was to make sure she won, so this spy shot was a backup . But she did win fair and square. too cool.

We made it to the Jackson RV resort a day earlier than our schedule and paid for the extra night because most casino rv dry lots won't let you stay if the rv park has vacancies. It worked out, our site was vacant and we were able to visit members who also arrived two days early. Let the fun begin.

Two of our much loved friends making a 90 min drive to the event called with mechanical issues which later turned out to be major repairs. To my surprise a Tow truck showed up to drop their rv for the event with a promise to return and haul it away to a repair shop after the weekend. I am sure the couple was upset but friends, comradely and a bottle of spirits help ease the thoughts of repair bills to come.

First night of the event we ordered Pizza and had a local vineyard winemaker set up wine tasting . Paisano's Pizza of Jackson did deliver. the pizza was wonderful. Ric, Tim and I served pizza while our friend Phil and Jamie from 1850 wine gave member an introduction to some fine local grape. Not to be outdone by the wine and Pizza Tim set the room up in an Italian theme. Complete with Italian music mixed with Sinatra rat pack favorites.
