Windover Women’s Resort is a best kept secret and my absolute happy place.

The facility is an old family camp in the thumb of Michigan that has been lovingly restored. There are campsites with water and electric, restored trailers to rent, and seasonal spots (a few with FHU). The grounds are filled with lush grass, old growth trees, a pond and even a winding brook (really). The shower house is dated but adorable, the store has a few essentials and lots of wisdom, the community room is always open and the pool is huge and inviting. The camp caters to women (primarily lesbians) who live on the east side of the state but we are full timers (from Missouri) who enjoy summering in this lil’ nirvana.

While Windover is in a pretty remote area (a 10 mile drive through Amish farmland to get to laundry and groceries), there are nearby services (and even pizza and grocery delivery!). My personal favs are the beach (Port Crescent State Park) and the (Bad Axe) bakery. With most of the campers being “seasonal”, community is strong and weekends are filled with (optional) activities.

Important to note is that Windover is not currently offering welcome to our trans siblings (reflected in the reduced “friendliness” rating). The price of admission is a “W” on your ID and self-identification as a woman (ie: AFAB women). Clearly limiting in the LGBTQIA community, I’m hopeful that this is a growing edge and will soon evolve.
