Umpqua's Last Resort is nestled along the North Umpqua River in the Oregon Cascade Mountains. Surrounded by the Umpqua National Forest it has been named "Oregon's Emerald-Jewel Gateway" to Crater Lake National Park that leads along spectacular marble river views.

large RV Sites, Campsites, & Lodging in an area known for its multitude of activities. World class fly-fishing and professionally guided Whitewater Rafting & Mountain Biking Tours are also available.

The North Umpqua area, located in the cascade mountain range of Oregon, prior to the arrival of settlers, was occupied by The Umpqua Tribe of Indians, subsisting on the abundant fish, game, roots, nuts and berries of the region. The term “Umpqua,” naming the major river in the area, is thought to describe the rush of “Thunder Water” from the many waterfalls and rapids. However, the true meaning of the word is uncertain. Settlers established homesteads in the Glide area beginning around 1852. The name Glide came into existence in 1890 when Virginia Laird selected the name for the new post office from the song “The River Goes Gliding Along.” A ranger station was built in Glide in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today, the building houses the Colliding Rivers Visitor Center. Prune orchards and farming were the main economic basis for the area until logging became prevalent in the 1940s. Idleyld Park was named and established as an amusement park in 1920 by Mr. Inman. Earl Vosburg bought the property and completed the store and cabins. It included picnic grounds, overnight camping, and a dance hall. Mr. Vosburg became the first postmaster when postal services were moved from the Nixon cabin near Rock Creek to the Vosburg’s property in 1926. He also operated a large tamale factory, employing local women to can tamales that were shipped all over the United States during the Great Depression

This is a clean, friendly LGBT-owned campground in a truly spectacularly beautiful location. They have full hookups on level, graveled sites, and also rent small cabins and glamping tents. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and the place is neat as a pin. But the real reason to go is to be in nature. From here there are miles of hiking trails in the Umpqua River Gorge, taking you to natural waterfalls, hot springs and lakes. An easy day trip to snow in winter months! The campground is surrounded by pristine old-growth evergreen forests and sits on the edge of a beautiful turquoise river. It's just breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful here.

Bear in mind there is no cell service in this area; the campground offers access to their satellite internet hookup for a modest upcharge. They do not have laundry facilities on-site. This is also far from restaurants and shops (there is a tiny grocery next door with a few staples) so plan accordingly.

This campground is a hidden jewel for those who want to escape the city and experience the tranquility of camping. Nestled in the mountains, the Umpqua River is across the street for fly fishing, skinny dipping, and white water rafting. Hot Springs, Crater Lake, and the waterfall tour are all accessible via car. Tons of trails to hike. The owners and staff are friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Definitely a campground to add to the bucket list.

The 2009 CampOUT events at Umpqua's Last Resort were just great! We had a big BBQ, Rowdy Camp hosted a socail on Friday night, we took a dip in the natural hot springs just up the road with a group of 30 guys and took a spectacular white water guided tour down the river. The camp Hosts were very friendly and helpful and joined us on a hike to Watson Falls an incredible site at 272 ft. The June, July, and August CampOUT's in 2010 should be great and we look forward to being there again.
